Gratefully, Mesa is a personal blog about gratitude and recognizing the “good things” in life. Life is full of little joys, treasures, and moments that are often taken for granted. Being grateful focuses on living in the now and appreciating what we have in this moment instead of anticipating what we will gain in the next. Good things are all around, all you need to do is take time to see them for what they are and savor in the moment. Happy reading and hope you enjoy, thanks for stopping by! Gratefully, Mesa

{good thing} New Kicks on the Block

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. You are the one who'll decide where to go.”    - Dr. Seuss

There is just something so inspiring about a new pair of running shoes! They put a pep in the step and fun in a run!  Working out becomes fresh and exciting again with new shoes.  They make me feel like I can run a few extra miles, do a couple more squats, and “crunch a bunch” more sit-ups.  With new shoes, a new playlist for the ipod is in order.  These are some great tunes to move to:

S & M –Rihanna
Poker Face-  Lady Gaga
Imma Be- The Black Eyed Peas
Hey Baby- Pitbull
Loca- Shakira
Thunderstruck- AC/DC
Broken- UNKLE
Freakshow- Britney Spears
Calabria 2007- Enur
Ricochet- Shiny Toy Guns
Paint it Black- The Rolling Stones
Hung Up- Madonna
Supermassive Black Hole- Muse
Fergalicious- Fergie
Hayloft- Mother Mother

Pick your kicks & get moving!

{gratitude} It's Raining, It's Pouring, Our Two Pugs Are Snoring

"There ain't no way to find out why a snorer can't hear himself snore." - Mark Twain

What kinds of sounds do you find relaxing?  The shooshing of waves on a deserted beach, wind chimes gently chiming in the breeze, crickets chirping on a hot summer night?  What sound do I find comforting and relaxing??  Puppy snores… specifically pug snores.  Granted my husband & I have to sleep on a separate level of the house because of the volume of these snores, but while napping on the couch or working on the computer, there is just nothing quite like hearing the little motor boat noises ascending from our little flat faced pooches.  It is a noise that has become soothingly familiar and resonates the feeling  of being home, no matter where we are at the moment and for that I am truly grateful.

{good thing} "C is for Cookie!"

"A balanced diet is a cookie in each hand." :-)  -Author Unknown

Thin Mints, Lemon Chalet Cremes, Samoas,Do-Si-Dos… my mouth is watering just thinking about them!  It’s  Girl Scout Cookie time and not a moment too soon.  It seems like a rite of spring each year when the flowers & trees start to bloom & blossom, the Girl Scouts come out with their colorful boxes of delicious cookie goodness!  At least when you wipe the crumbs from your mouth, you know those extra calories were for a good cause.  Just as the Girl Scouts website says, “Every Cookie Has a Mission: To Help Girls Do Great Things.” Have you got your boxes yet?  Here’s where you can find a Girl Scout with cookies near you!

{gratitude} Pillow Talk

“The Best advice is found on the pillow.”
                           -Danish Proverb

No, not the 1959 classic with Doris Day & Rock Hudson… I’m talking about the good old fashioned pillow you rest your head on.  As I was laying in bed last night, I kept thinking how grateful I am for my pillow.  It might seem like a silly thing to be thankful for, but can you imagine life without one?  When I am exhausted after a long day’s work, nothing beats laying down & resting my head on a soft, comfy pillow.  There are all types of pillows: neck pillows, body pillows, decorative pillows, travel pillows, pillows for side & stomach sleepers, pillows for back sleepers, Tempur-pedic pillows, and even pillow pets (it’s a pillow, it’s a pet…), take your pick!  I would like to say thank you to my pillow for all it has done for me and my sanity, providing many restful nights of relaxing sleep!  And without further ado, I present “An Ode to my Pillow” by thislittleditty.com:

Oh clean and cool puff of perfection,
Pure white, an unblemished confection!

You sit there, a silent temptation-
My precious eight hour vacation.

Rarely you’re lumpy or twisted.
Consequently flipped over or fisted.

Deliciously gentle
(I’m so sentimental)
Oh Pillow, My Pillow Sublime!

The sight of you invokes a deep sigh.
The smell of you pulls closed my eyes.

A turn of my head and you call,
Inviting my body to fall,

Forgetting the day (oh so long),
Your pull has no strings, but is strong.

Deliciously gentle,
(Again, sentimental)
Oh Pillow, My Pillow Sublime!

So, here’s to the pillow, a puffy priceless perfection!
